Clearing the air on inhaler stereotypes through play
Clearing the Air is a critical repackaging of an asthma inhaler that aims to appeal to young children in hopes to motivate and inspire confidence in young children with asthma. Clearing the Air is a reusable inhaler case that has customizable stickers for the inhaler. The case and stickers allow the change to experiment with their inhaler as part of their visual expression, implementing their inhaler in everyday life versus seeing it as debilitating.
Duration: 2024 - 6 weeks
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
Materials: Lightweight Paper, X-Acto Knife, Inhaler
Throughout my research for this project, and from my own experiences with asthma, I found that those with asthma are typically portrayed as weak and inferior in popular culture and thus have negative social experiences throughout their lives, mainly as a child. Through this case, I hope to inspire young children to be confident in their inhaler and realize it's their way of meeting the world in the middle.
As this version of the packaging is a prototype, the official version would ideally be a safe and sustainable metallic case to ensure durability and reusability.
